Sudbury Savoyards

The Sudbury Savoyards are a community theater organization based in Sudbury, Massachusetts, founded in 1961. They are noted for performing Gilbert and Sullivan comic operas on a grand scale. Each winter, they produce a large-scale Gilbert and Sullivan show, featuring casts of up to 60 people, a full orchestra of as many as 30 pieces, full staging, and extensive costuming and lighting[1][2].

Community Focus

The organization emphasizes the importance of "community" in community theater, ensuring that everyone is welcome. No auditions are required for the chorus, making it accessible to all who wish to participate. Leads, however, are selected through competitive auditions[1][2].

Non-Profit Status

The Sudbury Savoyards operate as a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization. None of the over 150 people involved in their productions receive financial compensation, and all proceeds are donated to charitable causes, specifically the Sudbury United Methodist Committee for the relief of world hunger[1][2]. The group relies on the generosity of its members and supporters to maintain its productions[2].

Performance Venue

Performances are held in a 900-seat auditorium at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, providing a professional setting for their theatrical productions[1].
