Remembrance of Patrolman Charles J. Collins, 26th R.T.T., E.O.W. May 20, 1942 Today, May 20th, the State Police Associations of Massachusetts takes a moment to honor and remember Patrolman Charles J. Collins. Patrolman Collins and his partner responded to a home in Byfield regarding an earlier hold-up complaint on the Georgetown-Newbury line. Upon entering the suspect’s home, Collins was shot and killed. His partner returned fire, killing the assailant. An eight-year veteran and 33-years-old, Patrolman Collins was a member of the 26th RTT (1934) assigned to Troop A. He leaves behind his wife. In 1942, at the time of his death, Troopers were referred to as Patrolman. May he continue to rest in peace knowing that his memory, sacrifice and family will never be forgotten. Remembrance of Inspector James B. DeShazo, E.O.W. May 17, 1915 Today, the State Police Association of Massachusetts takes a moment to honor and remember Inspector James B. DeShazo. On November 13, 1914, Inspector James B. DeShazo was assaulted while at the Worcester office of the District Police Department. The beating that Inspector DeShazo sustained left him unconscious with two broken ribs. Inspector DeShazo remained in ill health until his death six months later on May 17, 1915. A fourteen year veteran, Inspector DeShazo was 56 years old. May he continue to rest in peace knowing that his memory and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
