Chianti has been adopted! (fb)

The weather is getting nicer, and we want our bunnies to enjoy the nice weather too! How can we do this safely and responsibly? Buddha is showing off one of his favorite ways- the pet stroller! When bringing your bunny outside, think about these four things: Bugs, Predators, Escape, and Temperature. Bugs: any time you bring your rabbit outside or they interact with a pet that does, they are at risk of getting fleas, ticks, other parasites, or even disease like RHDV2. Be sure to talk with your vet about bunny safe options for flea and tick control, and keep them vaccinated for RHDV2! Predators: dogs, cats, even hawks or snakes can be potential threats! Stay with your rabbit when they are outside, and keep them in an area that is not at risk for unexpected guests like stray pets! Escape: even if your rabbit loves you and sticks right by your side, anything could spook them and cause them to run. Be sure to use an exercise pen or other safe barrier instead of fully free roaming outside! Temperature: here in the Midwest we can get a lot of beautiful days, so be sure to stick with outdoor excursions when it's comfortable and avoid the hot, humid days. Be sure your rabbit has access to water and hay! Remember- we are a HOUSE rabbit rescue... We advocate only for housing your rabbits inside with outdoor excursions. Rabbits are domestic animals that have substantially better and longer lives when kept indoors. Have questions or want to share your bunny happily and safely enjoying the outdoors?
