About 50% of the people who use these medications for >= 4 weeks become dependent on them and suffer benzodiazepine-induced neurological dysfunction (BIND). This is a sometimes long-lasting disorder that can severly degrade sufferers' lives in a manner similar to fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome.
