Napa Police Officers Association

The Napa Police Officers Association (NPOA) is a non-profit organization comprising professional police officers who serve with the Napa Police Department. The association focuses on fostering a strong partnership between its members and the community they serve.

Mission and Activities

The NPOA is dedicated to supporting its community through various charitable initiatives. Each year, it donates time and funds to numerous charities and organizations within Napa and surrounding areas. The association prides itself on building positive relationships with local citizens through community events and educational programs.

History and Context

The Napa Police Department, from which the NPOA draws its membership, was originally founded in 1875. The city's first law enforcement officer was Ebenezer Biggs, who served as the Town Marshal with both criminal and civil responsibilities. Over the years, the Napa Police Department has evolved significantly, with notable changes including the establishment of a full-time Chief of Police position in 1909 and the introduction of modern policing programs and technologies.

Community Engagement

The NPOA emphasizes community engagement and includes initiatives that promote a positive image of law enforcement among local youth. By participating in educational programs and fundraising activities, the association helps foster a sense of cooperation between law enforcement and the community.

Structure

The association is led by elected officers who oversee its operations and ensure that it meets its objectives of supporting both its members and the broader community. The NPOA is part of a broader network of police organizations in the United States, sharing goals similar to those of national bodies like the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO).

Charitable Contributions

The NPOA actively supports various charitable causes, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing the well-being of the Napa community. Through donations and volunteer efforts, the association contributes significantly to local social welfare and community development initiatives.
