LOPE helps at-risk racehorses find second careers, while inspiring young people through horsemanship LOPE provides education programs for ex-racehorses and young people. Our work enables horses and people to learn from each other in meaningful ways. We help at-risk racehorses find second careers, while inspiring young people through horsemanship education. LOPE partners with equine education groups (such as American Association of Equine Veterinary Technicians and Austin Equine Hospital) to provide practical learning programs for teens and disadvantaged youth (as well as for the horses). LOPE is accredited by the prestigious Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. Our work has been featured in numerous media outlets including The New York Times, Today Show, CNN.com, Dallas Morning-News, Austin-American Statesman and Oprah magazine.

Big news from the LOPE barn: We’ve already reached over 1,000 students and teachers in 2025 — and we’re on track to hit 1,200 by summer. Just six months ago, we were thrilled (and honestly a little amazed) to have reached 300 youth in all of 2024. That felt big.
