California Japanese American Community Leadership Council

The organization supports initiatives that foster community involvement, cultural preservation, and leadership development, particularly among young Nikkei (Japanese Americans).

Mission and Objectives

The CJACLC focuses on empowering future leaders of the Japanese American community by providing opportunities for leadership development and community engagement. Its mission includes preserving cultural heritage and advancing the interests of the Japanese American community through collaboration with various community organizations.

Programs and Initiatives

One of the key initiatives supported by the CJACLC is the Nikkei Community Internship (NCI) Program. This program is an eight-week summer internship that offers Nikkei college students in California the opportunity to engage in community involvement and leadership development. The NCI Program is crucial for developing future leaders and helping them understand the social, cultural, and civic issues affecting the Japanese American community.

Partnerships and Collaborations

The CJACLC collaborates with other organizations, such as the Japanese Community Youth Council (JCYC) in Northern California and Kizuna in Southern California, to implement programs like the NCI. These partnerships facilitate the exchange of ideas and resources, enhancing the impact of community initiatives across California.

Leadership and Governance

The organization is led by experienced individuals who are committed to advancing the goals of the Japanese American community. Members often hold positions in various related councils and boards, reflecting the organization's influence within community leadership structures.

Impact

The CJACLC's efforts contribute significantly to the preservation of Japanese American culture and history, particularly in California's historic Japantowns. By supporting young leaders and community programs, the organization helps ensure a vibrant future for Japanese American communities across the state.
