Tradeswomen, Inc. was the nations first organization for women in the Building Trades. Founded in 1979, our mission is outreach, recruitment & retention. TRADESWOMEN INC. (TWI) HAS AS ITS BASIC MISSION OUTREACH, RECRUITMENT, RETENTION AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT FOR WOMEN IN NON-TRADITIONAL TRADES. TWI PROMOTES PATHWAYS FOR BLUE-COLLAR WOMEN TO ENTER HIGH WAGE TRADES CAREERS AND GAIN ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES.TO IMPLEMENT ITS MISSION TWI PROVIDES DIRECT SERVICES TO WOMEN INCLUDING ORIENTATIONS, INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOPS, REFERRALS TO SUPPORTIVE SERVICES, JOB REFERRALS THROUGH OUR WEBSITE AND LIST SERV, SUPPORT GROUPS, AND SEXUAL HARASSMENT TRAINING. TWI ALSO PROVIDES RECRUITMENT, INFORMATIONAL, RETENTION AND NETWORKING SERVICES TO AGENCIES AND UTILITIES TO PLACE AND RETAIN WOMEN IN TRADES POSITIONS. TWI PROVIDES TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO EMPLOYERS, UNIONS AND APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS TO INCREASE THEIR FEMALE RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION EFFORTS. We help gritty women find the career that provides them the opportunity to provide for themselves and their families. Nationally only 3 to 4 of the building trades workforce are women and similar representation in related skilled trades such as machinists and auto mechanics.
