Oko Farms
Oko Farms is NYC's only publicly accessible Aquaponics Farm and Education Company in Brooklyn, New York. We utilize aquaponics because it allows us to cultivate both freshwater fish and vegetables while saving water. Oko Urban Farms is dedicated to both increasing food security for New York City residents and the promotion of ecological and accessible food cultivation practices. We utilize aquaponics because it allows us to cultivate both fish and vegetables in small urban spaces while saving water. Our mission is to provide a sustainable source of locally-raised protein (fish) and vegetables to New York City residents while increasing the number of people with the knowledge and skills to practice aquaponics.

Urban Farming Education and Environmental Stewardship in Brooklyn NY Oko Farms activities began in 2013 as a volunteerrun initiative with the conversion of a rundown 2500 square foot lot in Bushwick Brooklyn into The Oko Farms Aquaponics Farm Education Center. The farm was built in collaboration with the Moore Street Brooklyn community and a diverse group of individuals interested in bringing an outdoor aquaponics farm to Brooklyn. The word oko pays homage to our founders Yoruba heritage. Oko is a Yoruba word which loosely translates to farm in English.
