Remineralize the Earth

RTE is furthering the worldwide movement of remineralizing soils with rock dust and sea minerals to restore soils and forests and to stabilize the climate. Better soil. Better food. Better planet. https://www.remineralize.org/ Remineralization utilizes finely ground rock dust and sea-based minerals to restore soils and forests, produce higher yields and more nutritious food, and store carbon in soils to stabilize the climate. Our three aims are: 1- To regenerate soils and forests worldwide 2- Increase the nutritional quality and yield of food production 3- Store atmospheric carbon in soils to stabilize the climate Through our education and outreach, projects, research, and advocacy, Remineralize the Earth facilitates a worldwide movement that brings together gardeners and farmers, scientists and policymakers and the public to create better soils, better food, and a better planet.

Remineralize the Earth

Remineralize the Earth (RTE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental sustainability through soil remineralization. Founded in 1995 by Joanna Campe, it aims to promote the use of natural minerals to restore soils, increase food nutrients, and combat climate change.

Purpose

The organization focuses on utilizing finely ground rock dust and sea-based minerals to enhance soil fertility, increase crop yields, and improve nutritional content. Through these methods, RTE also seeks to reduce atmospheric CO2 levels by enhancing soil carbon sequestration.

History

RTE evolved from earlier initiatives by Joanna Campe, who began exploring soil remineralization in the 1980s. Campe was influenced by John D. Hamaker's work on using rock dust as a natural soil amendment. In 1986, she started the "Soil Remineralization, A Network Newsletter," which later became Remineralize the Earth Magazine before transitioning into the nonprofit organization in 1995.

Activities and Partnerships

RTE collaborates with various institutions, such as the University of Brasilia and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, on projects involving agricultural remineralization and the use of biochar with rock dust. The organization is also involved in developing educational curricula for K-12 students to teach them about soil health, sustainable agriculture, and related environmental topics.

Leadership

Joanna Campe serves as the founder and executive director, while Tom Goreau, a renowned biogeochemist, is a board member and researcher focused on optimizing soil carbon sequestration through the use of rock dust and biochar. Other notable directors include Tara Zadeh, formerly of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources.

Publications and Recognition

In 2015, RTE founding members, along with Ronal W. Larson, published Geotherapy: Innovative Methods of Soil Fertility Restoration, Carbon Sequestration, and Reversing CO2 Increase. The organization holds a Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar, highlighting its commitment to transparency and results measurement.

Mission and Vision

RTE's mission is to disseminate knowledge and practices related to soil remineralization globally, aiming to address issues like desertification, food security, and climate stabilization. Through its work, RTE seeks to create healthier ecosystems and promote sustainable agriculture practices worldwide.
