Love Our Children NC Inc

Overview

Love Our Children NC Inc is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for child-centered and evidence-based policies in North Carolina, especially focusing on keeping children in school. Founded in March 2021 by Veronica McLaurin Brown and Peter Rawitsch, both experienced educators from Wilmington, the organization's primary mission is to eliminate out-of-school suspensions for young students, particularly those aged 4 to 7, except in cases involving violence, drugs, or weapons.

Achievements

In March 2022, Love Our Children NC Inc successfully lobbied the New Hanover County Board of Education to end out-of-school suspensions for the youngest learners, with exceptions for severe infractions like violence or possession of drugs and weapons. This achievement reflects the organization's commitment to creating a more inclusive educational system.
