It's that time of year! With warmer temps coming, turtles are on the move! If you see a turtle crossing a road, please stop (if it is safe to do so), and move the turtle in the direction they were headed. For Snapping Turtles, picking them up by the back of their shell, near their back legs can prevent that long neck from taking a whack at you! If you do find an injured turtle, please contact a DNR licensed rehabber- Saving Scales is NOT able to assist with wildlife. https://www2.dnr.state.mi.us/dlr/ And finally, if you find a turtle in the wild, PLEASE leave them there! Michigan is home to many protected species- beyond potential legal issues, removing a single adult from a population can have huge effects for the ecosystem, since so few Turtles survive to adulthood.
