Over the years, it served as the headquarters or Motherhouse for some of the Vincentian Sisters of Charity. The property hosted various religious and educational activities, including a high school for girls (Lumen Cordium High School), which closed in 1987. With the Sisters' diminishing membership and eventual merger with the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati in 2004, the need arose to preserve the historic site for future generations.
