Every 40 seconds someone in the U.S. has a stroke and in those critical moments "time is brain." This week UF Health Jacksonville in collaboration with the City of Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department unveiled the Mobile Stroke Treatment Unit (MSTU) – a game changer in the ability to treat stroke victims faster. This specially equipped vehicle brings the emergency care to the patient and shortens the time between the onset of stroke symptoms and the delivery of acute stroke care. With advanced tools like a portable CT scanner, telemedicine capabilities, and stroke-specific medication on board, this unit is designed to diagnose and begin treatment immediately, even before a patient arrives at the hospital. Our hope is that this helps improve functional outcomes and reduces the risk of death or disability. Thank you to everyone who played a role in bringing this vision to life.
