WORLD WATER DAY There are 2 billion people around the world without access to safe and clean drinking water. (WHO) The World Health Organization estimates that as many as 2.2 million people die annually from diarrhea alone. (WHO) On average, women and girls in developing countries walk approximately 3.5 miles a day, carrying 20 liters of water. (USAID) Walking for water is often not only dangerous, but leaves women vulnerable to abuse. This affects their ability to study, work and live in dignity. (USAID) Solea Water is dedicated to making these facts a part of history by alleviating water poverty in order to bring hope to impoverished communities in Latin America. Providing clean water to a community results in: -Better education -Healthier communities -Higher economic output -Safety for women and children Our projects center around empowering indigenous communities to understand and take ownership over their water systems. We ask each community to contribute labor, a percentage of the project cost, and to be responsible for filtration of the water at the household level. Making a difference. Together. (fb)
