St. Catherine's Center for Children
St. Catherine's Center for Children is a publicly-funded, not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive human services to society’s most vulnerable individuals. Registered as a 501(c)(3) organization with the EIN 141338455, the organization operates with a mission to offer hope and stability through child and family care, community-based programs, and homeless services.
History
Established in 1886, St. Catherine's Center for Children has a long history of serving the community, particularly in the Capital Region. Over the years, the organization has evolved to include new programs and services tailored to meet the changing needs of at-risk children, families, and adults.
Mission and Philosophy
The mission of St. Catherine's is rooted in addressing fundamental human needs such as connection, security, safety, dignity, and respect. It strives to foster an ‘unconditional community’ where individuals are not excluded based on their circumstances. This inclusive approach guides all the services and programs provided by the organization.
Services
St. Catherine's offers a wide range of services, including:
- Child Services: Strengthening families with care and resilience, empowering them with vital tools for positive home environments.
- Family Services: Addressing challenges and fostering resilience in children from an early age.
- Community Outreach: Empowering at-risk families and individuals with essential resources to create nurturing environments and embrace positive lifestyles.
- Homeless & Housing Services: Providing safe shelter and essential support to families in need.
- Health & Nutrition: Promoting student health through nursing services and enhancing nutrition and cognitive function in children.
Funding
The primary source of revenue for St. Catherine's comes from local, state, and federal entities that fund its human services programs. However, public funding often falls short of meeting all needs, prompting the organization to seek additional support through philanthropy. The Foundation of St. Catherine’s Center for Children plays a crucial role in securing this supplementary funding through donations, grants, and in-kind gifts.
Impact
St. Catherine's is a leading regional provider of human services, empowering individuals to lead healthier and happier lives. The organization relies on community support to meet the diverse needs of those it serves. By fostering a sense of belonging and providing comprehensive services, St. Catherine's contributes significantly to the well-being of vulnerable populations.

Your health begins at home and in your community. From April 7-13, we welcome you to join us in celebrating National Public Health Week! Health starts here at St. Catherine’s. Our Residential program and R & E May School provide a nurturing environment to foster children’s mental and emotional health, while our Food & Nutrition department ensures children in our programs have balanced meals and are learning healthy habits. Additionally, our Health Home Care Management program makes sure individuals' medical needs are addressed to stay healthy, out of the emergency room, and out of the hospital. Together, we can create environments that promote mental, physical, and emotional well-being for all. 💚 American Public Health Association #NPHW #NationalPublicHealthWeek #HopeForTomorrow (fb)
