Mission and History

Marian Woods was established by a collaborative effort among several Congregations of Catholic Sisters, including the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Mid-Atlantic Community; Sisters of St. Francis of Peace; Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt; Society of the Holy Child Jesus American Province; and Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. The facility opened in July 2001 as a jointly owned and governed community to address the mutual need for care among aging members of these congregations.

Governance

The organization is governed through a two-tier structure consisting of members of the corporation and a board of directors. The members represent the founding religious institutes, each designating a delegate for corporate matters. The board includes these delegates along with other elected individuals, overseeing various aspects of the organization through committees like Executive, Mission and Governance, Finance, Buildings and Grounds, Quality Assurance, and Mission Advancement/Community Outreach.

Operations

Marian Woods operates a 50-bed residence that provides elder Catholic women religious with quality care and a simple, holistic lifestyle. The facility emphasizes person-centered care, addressing physical, spiritual, social, and emotional needs. Residents are encouraged to participate in prayer, study, and enrichment activities, contributing to a peaceful and supportive community environment.
