Secretary of State Adrian Fontes invites all Arizonans to take part in "Two Lights for Tomorrow" on Friday, April 18, as the state launches its official commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary. The evening marks Arizona’s entry into the nationwide America250 initiative, honoring the legacy of Paul Revere’s midnight ride while recognizing our deep cultural history. The celebration will spotlight the winner of Arizona’s America250 logo contest, whose design will appear on official merchandise and throughout the campaign. In partnership with iconic Arizona brands like State Forty Eight, they will preview exclusive apparel and limited-edition items. The first 250 attendees will receive a commemorative poster produced by the Arizona America250 Commission. Guests will also be introduced to major upcoming initiatives, including Passport250, a statewide digital adventure for families and classrooms, and the Liberty Bell Traveling Museum, designed to bring civic education and patriotic engagement to all 15 counties. Hosted at the Arizona State Capitol, the event will include 22 historical and cultural exhibits, military tributes, Native American storytelling, and a variety of food trucks. The evening’s program is packed with performances and presentations that celebrate Arizona’s role in shaping our nation’s story. Highlights include a patriotic pre-show playlist, performances by Ballet Arizona hoop dancers, the Arizona Army National Guard Brass Quartet, Yellow Bird Productions, and the Phoenix Symphony. The program will also feature a historical presentation on Arizona 250 years ago, a land acknowledgement, and remarks from Governor Katie Hobbs, Senate President Warren Petersen, and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. Ceremonial elements include the Presentation of the Colors by the Sons of the American Revolution, the National Anthem sung by TSgt Lisa Cimino, the Pledge of Allegiance led by State Senator Vince Leach, and a dramatic reading and reenactment of Paul Revere’s ride. At sunset, two beacons will rise above the State Capitol, symbolizing the lanterns lit in 1775. Government buildings across Arizona will shine two lights in unison, and residents are encouraged to do the same. The night will conclude with the ceremonial lighting and musical tributes that echo the enduring call of freedom. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be livestreamed on the Secretary of State’s YouTube channel and broadcast on Cox Communications YurView channel 4 in Phoenix and channel 7 in Southern Arizona.
