On Mother's Day, we celebrate the Honor, Courage and Commitment of the moms who sacrifice so much for their loved ones. We are 6 months away from the USMC's 250th birthday countdown on November 10th! In the War of 1812, U.S. forces fought the British once again on American soil. About 1,200 Marine soldiers primarily fought by sea alongside U.S. Naval ships but had a land presence in two key battles. In the 1814 Battle of Bladensburg, U.S. forces fought the British invasion in Maryland. At the end of the war, the Americans prevailed over British Forces at the Battle of New Orleans on January 8, 1815, in which the Continental Marines played a crucial role in their victory. (fb)
