Did you know it's National Brisket Day? Southside Market, one of the first BBQ establishments in Texas, was started in 1882 by William Moon who raised and slaughtered his own animals. He would carry the meat into town by horse and sell it fresh, door-to-door, so that it would not spoil. In 1886, Moon opened his first brick and mortar off Central Ave in Elgin. In 1908 he sold the business to Lee Wilson, who continued to serve the community as a small butcher shop that sold BBQ in the back. #nationalbrisketday #texas (fb)

The Ennis Garden Club launched the first bluebonnet trails in 1952, attracting 1,000 visitors. By 1955, attendance reached 10,000, prompting the 1957 creation of the Ennis Bluebonnet Festival with parades, rodeos, and a Bluebonnet Queen. The trails, later named Texas’ Official Bluebonnet Trail, spurred local economic growth and conservation efforts. In 2023, the THC awarded the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails a historical marker. The marker was unveiled at the Ennis Welcome Center in April 2025, with members of the Ennis Garden Club present to commemorate the occasion. #texas #bluebonnets #ennisgardenclub (fb)
