Connecticut Land Conservation Council Inc
The Connecticut Land Conservation Council Inc (CLCC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening land conservation efforts across the state of Connecticut. Formed in 2006, CLCC serves as the only statewide service provider and voice for approximately 120 land trusts in Connecticut.
Mission and Vision
CLCC's mission is to elevate and strengthen land conservation in Connecticut by empowering local land trusts and ensuring the long-term viability of conservation efforts. The organization envisions a future where every Connecticut community benefits from a diverse mix of conserved lands, with land conservation recognized as a core community value.
Activities and Roles
CLCC operates through several key roles:
- Convener of the Land Conservation Community: It provides a platform for land trusts to collaborate and advance their conservation goals.
- Provider of Training and Education: Offers practical and affordable opportunities to improve organizational capacity through training, education, and community-centered programs.
- Technical Assistance Provider: Offers direct technical assistance and access to current conservation information.
- Grantmaker: Administers grant programs such as the Land Capital Grant Program, Climate Smart Land Stewardship Grant Program, and Transaction Assistance Grant Program to enhance the capacity of land trusts.
- Advocate: Advocates at the state capitol for policies impacting land conservation, addressing climate change, and protecting critical funding programs.
Impact
Since its inception, CLCC has grown into one of the most effective land trust service associations in the country. It hosts an annual conference that draws significant participation from the land conservation community, including land trusts, conservation groups, and government agencies.
CLCC also recognizes the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice in its work, striving to address systemic challenges faced by marginalized communities in the pursuit of sustainable land conservation practices.

Wooly Adelgids suck. Seriously. They feed by sucking sap from the base of hemlock needles, which starves the tree. If these invasive suckers don't kill the tree, they weaken it so much that it succumbs to other pests or droughts. 🌲🌲🌲 This is one example of an environmental stress caused by a changing climate. And it's one challenge our friends and allies are working to solve through climate-smart forestry. 🌲🌲🌲 Shout out to our forester friends Tom and Amanda at Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) and UConn Forest, and to Beth and Juliana from Avalonia Land Conservancy, Inc, for leading forest tours this past weekend that shared insight with fellow conservation groups and forest stewards. 🌲🌲🌲 At #MoheganStateForest, we saw a framework for adaptive forest management in action, while at the #HoffmanPreserve in North Stonington we learned about an effort to rejuvenate the ailing Hemlock forest with more resilient tree species. 🌲🌲🌲 Read more on our blog: https://ctconservation.org/climate-smart-forest-stewardship-in-action/ And more about stewardship at the Hoffman Preserve via Avalonia: https://avalonia.org/preserves/hoffman-evergreen-preserve/ #LoveYourCTLandTrust and #LoveClimateSmartForestry (fb)

No farms, no food, right? We really need to be smart about our farming policies if we value locally-grown produce. That's why we need the Connecticut State Senate to approve HB 5064 this legislative session. Already approved by the House, this bill would provide conservation tools that help farmers generate revenue, make their land affordable for future farmers, and ensure that their land stays in agriculture. For more, check out the Farmland Access Report we published last year, in partnership with Connecticut Department of Agriculture: https://portal.ct.gov/-/media/doag/boards_commissions_councils/diversity-working-group/access-to-secure-land-tenure/ct-doag-farmland-access-and-ownership-final-march-2024.pdf #LoveYourCTLandTrust and #LoveYourCTFarms #CTGrown (fb)
