Meet Dane Spatz-Geiger, a Future Organic Farmers grantee who's following in the footsteps of his father, Jack—an agronomist who mentors organic farmers internationally! "My father has been my biggest coach," says Spatz-Geiger. "Every day I learn more about the nuances of farming and how to adapt production of food with ever-changing climate and pest issues. He's also taught me about the microbes in the soil, and how to nurture them to foster healthy soils." Dane plans to study Agronomy and Soil Science at Kansas State University before returning to his family's certified organic farm, which already produces corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, alfalfa, clover, and straw. The CCOF Foundation is proud to support the next generation of organic farmers like Dane with our Future Organic Farmers grant, which provides $5,000 scholarships to students training for careers in organic agriculture.
