Elton is officially over it. He tolerates other cats (if they stay humble) and will consider sharing his space with a dog—if the dog agrees to a formal interview. I picked up Peanut today 🥺 Rescuers are no strangers to senseless deaths and tragedy, but of the animals that I have had to make the call on to let go because of quality of life or injury, Peanut was probably the most difficult for me personally 💔 He was just a baby that didn’t have a moment of peace his entire life. Because of PEOPLE. Humans caused him to die and live in agony, unable to breathe for who knows how long. I can’t lie and say that cases like Peanut don’t make me want to quit Rescue altogether. Like they don’t make me want to hate people because it wouldn’t be true, they do. But then I wonder who would have stepped up for Peanut if I hadn’t. So many animals die because no one steps up, even with all of the amazing rescuers and supporters, it’s not enough. I genuinely thought that he would survive and that I got to him in time, and I was wrong 😞 When all you want to do is prove to that tiny life that we aren’t all bad. That they’re loved and their lives matter, and then you fail at saving them it takes a big toll and it eats at you and you replay everything over and over wondering what you could have done differently. While it seems like I’m making his death about me, It’s true, I have been struggling immensely because it’s not fair that humans treat animals this way so it’s not about me. It’s about ALL of us and the changes we ALL need to make to make sure that these incredible little beings don’t get tortured and die every single day. People need to WAKE UP and look around you. Do something. Volunteer, foster, adopt, donate, share…. ANYTHING. Peanut didn’t deserve this. In a matter of hours this baby boy impacted me so deeply and I hope that even with his story reaching just one person who decides to start helping, then it’s worth pouring my heart out when I’m telling it. Thank you Peanut for reminding me why I chose to help the helpless. I wish I could have saved you. The tiny grateful kisses I got from you will stay with me forever 💜 (fb)
