Buckner is a place to socialize with friends, rest your head, put your heart at ease & grow in faith. But most of all, it’s a place you can genuinely call home. Buckner Senior Living is one of the largest non-profit providers of retirement communities in the state of Texas. As adults enter the winter of their years, they need a secure, nurturing environment in which to live graciously and independently. At Buckner Retirement Services, we provide that through our five retirement communities where accommodations range from independent to assisted living and include skilled nursing services, special care units and a host of recreational activities. Rich in heritage and tradition, Buckner has provided a continuum of care to senior adults for 100 years, since the first retirement cottages were built on the perimeter of the Buckner Children's Home in Dallas. Today, with campuses in Austin, Beaumont, Dallas, Houston and Longview, Buckner has broadened its base but continues its legacy of providing quality senior care. We do this by adhering to our mission "to enhance the quality of life for senior adults and their families by promoting an active, healthy Christian lifestyle while maintaining their independence and dignity." That explains why, when you walk onto one of our retirement campuses, you get the feeling you're visiting someone's home, not a "facility."

The roots of Buckner Retirement Services trace back to 1879, when Dr. Robert Cooke Buckner established an orphans' home in Dallas, Texas. Initially, the organization provided support to retired pastors and missionaries by offering them residence in row houses near the orphanage. This setup also served as a foster family environment for children within the orphans' home. In 1954, Buckner opened its first official retirement community, Mary E. Trew Home in Dallas, marking the beginning of its senior living services. Over the years, the organization expanded to various locations, including Houston, Austin, and Longview[1].
