Luca is a soulful, expressive, and deeply loyal German Shepherd looking for a forever family that understands his sensitive heart. At 2 years old and 83#, Luca is in his prime, full of curiosity and love. His perfect day includes a sniffy walk with his favorite human, a ride in the car with the windows cracked just right, and quality time with a playful canine companion, especially if there's a ball involved. Nicknamed “Handsome” and “Big Boy,” Luca lives by the motto: “Let’s give this some thought.” He’s the kind of dog who notices little things. He takes time to trust after being bounced around as a youngster. He thrives with patience, stability, and a gentle hand. Luca would be happiest in a stable adult household and wants a family who knows and understands his breed. He’d love a playful, well-matched canine sibling - his best friend is a 32-lb Border Collie. With the right family, he'd be fine as a solo dog. While he would be fine living with kids roughly 10+, he prefers a calm environment without a lot of foot traffic or strangers coming and going. He has a moderate energy level, settling in beautifully with a solid off switch after a walk and playtime. He’s non-reactive on leash, comfortable in his crate (especially for sleeping), and trustworthy loose in the house for periods of time. He wants a fenced yard where he can stretch his legs and enjoy the outdoors safely. Electronic fences are not a fit for his sensitive nature. He’s naturally protective of his home and family, showing thoughtful wariness with new people at first. Once he understands they are friends, he’s content to relax and coexist peacefully. Luca wants to take obedience classes with his new family to cement their bond… and get lots of treats. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. All of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats.
