✨𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 Tonight we revive a Met Opera favorite, Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades returns to the Met stage tonight in Elijah Moshinsky’s lush and haunting production. From the elaborate wigs to the towering gowns, every detail is a spectacle — and the @MetOperaChorus is right in the heart of it. Here's a before and after, as we transform and take our places in this gripping tale of fate, obsession, and high-stakes drama. Performances run through June 7. #MetChorus #QueenOfSpades #Tchaikovsky #OperaCostumes #OpeningNight #BackstagePass #MetOpera Second Photo by Jonathan Tichler / Met Opera (fb)

We're back at the bargaining table with the Met today. Met Choristers Lianne and Scott spend over $70,000 a year on childcare just so they can both work full-time here. Their story isn’t totally unique: long commutes, patchwork caregiving, and time away from family are everyday realities for many. We juggle odd hours, rely on friends and neighbors, stretch every dollar—not because we want to, but because the job demands it. We’re fighting for a contract that honors the time and dedication it takes to make this work possible. Together, we will 🧡💙 [Quote in image: We spend over $70,000 a year on childcare—just so we can both work full-time at the Met. There’s no daycare open from 8 am to midnight, so we rely on at least four different caregivers to cover mornings, afternoons, and most evenings. The Met job isn’t a traditional 9-to-5, and New York City simply isn’t built for families who aren’t high earners. To afford housing, we had to move out of state, which means longer commutes, higher costs, and even less time with our daughter. Both of our livelihoods depend on the Met, but the Met doesn’t seem to understand the impossible math of raising a child while working here.” - Lianne Coble-Dispensa and Scott Dispensa, Choristers] (fb)
