Ducks Unlimited, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of wetlands and associated upland habitats for waterfowl, other wildlife, and people in North America.

History

Ducks Unlimited was founded in 1937 by a group of sportsmen during the Dust Bowl, a period marked by severe drought that had dramatically reduced waterfowl populations. Joseph P. Knapp is credited as one of the key founders. Initially, the organization focused on conserving the breeding grounds of Canada, which were crucial for waterfowl migration patterns. A sister organization, Ducks Unlimited Canada, was established shortly after to serve the Canadian prairies.
