Orange County Community Scholarship Feature 🎓 Louis Donovan & Winnora Gretchen Allen Scholarship Born in 1909 in Lawrence County, Louis D. Allen taught physical science for more than 45 years in Tunnelton, Bedford, Paoli, and at Arsenal Technical high School in Indianapolis. He spent his summers working for Indiana National Bank and Real Silk Hosiery. After his retirement from itching, Mr. Allen worked as a part time bookkeeper for Horner Electric Company for 15 years, retiring from there in 1989. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II from 1943-1946, Mr. Allen was a life member of the Tunnelton Veterans Association, which honored him in 1996 for his contributions to education, church, family, and community. He passed away the following year. Mr. Allen was married in August of 1934 to Winnora Gretchen Wilcox, and she followed him in death in 1999. This scholarship was created to commemorate his years of dedicated service to teaching in the fields of science and mathematics, and it is awarded annually to a Paoli student who has shown outstanding scholastic achievement in those fields. Criteria: - Must be a graduating Senior from Paoli High School. - Must be accepted into and attend a two or four year public or private institution of higher learning - Must have shown scholastic achievement in the field of Science or Mathematics while enrolled at Paoli High School.
