How do our Apex volunteers impact Apex youth? 🌟 | Meet Aaron and Yang This week, we’re spotlighting two of our amazing mentees, Aaron and Yang, who remind us just how transformative it has been to have Apex mentors.  For Aaron, having a mentor meant stepping outside his comfort zone, whether it was trying an American Ninja Warrior course or learning new skills like active listening and problem-solving. “Sometimes you just need someone who can lift you up, bring the energy, and help you see things in a new way,” Aaron shares. Yang reflects on the comfort and growth that comes from having someone who gets it. “It’s hard to talk to a teacher about family problems. Having a mentor there who has been through those family dynamics, especially in AAPI context, you can just learn from your mentor who has experienced these things.” From emotional support to new experiences, mentors make all the difference. Apex sets youth up for success by creating spaces where mentors and mentees can grow together. All it takes is someone willing to show up and listen. National Volunteer Week Spotlight 🌟 | Meet Ben  As part of our National Volunteer Week celebrations, we’re highlighting the powerful bonds formed through mentorship at @apexforyouth. For Ben, volunteering with Apex has been one of the most rewarding parts of his weekend — an opportunity to connect with someone who shares his interests and a reminder of the impact small moments can have. Ben and his mentee Austin first connected over basketball. At first, Austin was quiet and hesitant to open up. But on the court, walls came down and conversations started to flow. Over time, their bond deepened through shared interests like cooking. Mentorship has given Ben a chance to reflect on his own growth, shaped by the guidance of his older brother. Now, he’s passionate about giving back by being that same steady, supportive presence for his mentee. “Something I learned from Ben is if I am frustrated to just keep going and don’t give up,” Austin says.  At Apex, volunteering means having fun, growing together, and building bonds that feel like family.
