When Carolyn called us yesterday about a rabbit nest in her yard—it was literally one of dozens of similar calls we’ve received this year, and we gave her the advice we always give when babies aren’t injured — let’s try to renest. Mother rabbits are very loyal to the exact spot where they’ve made their nest and the babies can’t be relocated, so when a dog is involved—as is often the case, we need to protect the nest so that mother can finish her caregiving safely. We provide videos and pictures and personal advice and support as each situation is different. Baby rabbits with eyes still closed need their mother’s milk to survive, so we work especially hard to keep these tiny babies with their mothers, who also need to nurse. Carolyn wanted to keep mother and babies together and we spoke several times during the renesting process. This morning she shared the best news ever! “Momma came back at dusk. She sat over the nest and fed them…and returned to feed at 6:45 a.m. this morning.” “I truly appreciate the support and guidance you provided. I especially like that we didn’t need to bring the babies to the hospital. Your educational videos allowed babies and Momma to live in nature.” Thank YOU Carolyn💞 If you have a similar situation, please call us at 262-248-5055 and leave a message. We check voicemail often and will get back to you with help as soon as we can return your call. Together — we make this world a more compassionate place for all living beings. (fb)

The Robin, killdeer, and mallard eggs were all rescued after they were orphaned by different circumstances — some preventable, like tree cutting, and some that could not be foreseen and took the parents due to tragedy. Watching these innocent lives enter our world is to be reminded of the blessings that await each of us with every new day. After the newly hatched babies dry, they are checked and moved to incubators where we make sure the precocial birds are self-feeding, before they are introduced to a foster adult conspecific (same species.) Quick Links Rehabilitating birds can build strength muscle and stamina after spending time recovering from injuries. The 4000 square foot structure has two 100 foot long flights 20 feet high and 20 feet wide. Large sliding panel doors can be opened if we need to give birds a circular endless flight path. The fences are 10 feet high and are surrounded by a stockade fence which covers the lower 6 feet providing privacy and screening the fawns from human activity.
