National Association of Women in Construction
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is a U.S. nonprofit professional association dedicated to supporting women in the construction industry. Founded in 1953 under the name Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas, the organization expanded nationwide in 1955 to become the National Association of Women in Construction. Its inception was driven by the need for networking and support among women working in a predominantly male-dominated field.
Purpose
NAWIC aims to provide its members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, and advocacy within the construction industry. The association focuses on enhancing the career growth of women by offering various programs and resources.
Membership
Membership is available to women who work at least 20 hours per week in construction-related fields, including trades, project management, administration, law, finance, and insurance. Active members must belong to a NAWIC chapter. Women who do not meet these criteria can join as nonvoting members.
Organization
NAWIC has more than 120 chapters across the United States, organized into eight regional divisions. The organization is governed by a board of directors, which includes regional directors and a national executive committee composed of officers such as the president, president-elect, vice president, secretary, treasurer, immediate past president, parliamentarian, and executive director. NAWIC is affiliated with similar organizations worldwide.
