THE COAL INSTITUTE was organized by coal representatives of the Eastern United States in the spring of 1946 at the Sheraton Hotel High Point NC as The North Carolina Coal Institute. Later in thatyear our Bylaws were adopted and on November 13 1946 the Hon. ThadEure Secretary of the State of North Carolina presented our corporate charter to us in theO39HenryHotel Greensboro NC. The membership was subsequently enlarged to include representatives of the railroads coalconsuming installations industries and utilities as well as manufacturers of coalburning and handling equipment and to coalrelated service companies with membership now encompassing theentire United States.
