Heaven is here in Maine enjoying the sunshine! Heaven came from AL, where she was seized as part of a hoarding case. She had likely never known what it was like to live in a home prior to arrival in Maine and is making so much progress! She's a mixed breed girl who we estimate to be about 9-10 months old, and she weighs about 45 lbs. Her foster says: "Heaven is a delight. Despite her bad start in life, she is friendly, maybe a bit reserved, with people, gets on fine with cats, and is curious about other dogs – she mostly ignored my sister’s hyper small dogs! She would probably enjoy having another dog to be with, although we only have cats – she knows which cat to stay away from and which cat to try to play with. She was very timid when she arrived but has recovered mostly from that, joyously greeting her humans when they return. She adapted quite quickly to her new surroundings, a condo in Portland, and a camp in West Bath. She has been on family visits and to community meetings without any issues, generally sitting quietly until we’re done. She still gets easily startled and still interprets quick motions as if she might be hit. Very sad, but it is much less than when she arrived. She’s still young and wants to chew on wood – the raised beds in the garden seem to be a favorite. She loves her own toys, does not rip up her stuffies, but chews away on her hard bone like mad! She is perfectly housebroken, but would much rather pick her own place to do her business outside than be walked on city pavement – she would love her own fenced yard! She is good on the leash in Portland, but she needs basic training to come when called when she’s out in the yard. She wants to stay outside and, given a fenced-in yard, loves to do zoomies. Walking on a leash, she's fine on trail walks. Heaven is really smart and should respond well to any training." Heaven would likely appreciate a home outside of the city with another confident dog, older kids due to being timid, and a calm household that can continue to teach her about being a beloved family pet. Starry is a mixed-breed pup who came into rescue when her owners had too many dogs and could no longer care for them. We are unsure of her breed-we think possibly Lab and Shepherd but it is just a guess based on her and her siblings appearances. She is a happy, playful pup who is currently in AL but will be coming to Maine in mid-June. We anticipate that she will be medium size when full grown. She will be three months old on arrival to Maine.
