Families in Action for Quality Education
Because students deserve quality choices We are building a citywide movement for quality schools through parent and student leadership, and reclaiming the narrative about public education so Black and Brown parent and youth voices are heard. Families in Action for Quality Education was founded in 2019 to raise awareness about education disparities in Oakland and to increase students’ and families’ access to quality schools and equitable resources. Our work has four pillars: We build the leadership capacity of parents, youth, educators and school board members. We fight for underserved students to gain access to quality school experiences. We champion a vision for high quality schools for ALL students, no matter if they attend district or charter schools. We believe equitable access to quality education is a fundamental driver for a healthy city and we build powerful coalitions with community, city and faith organizations to achieve that goal.
