Bearden Middle School Science Olympiad Inc
Bearden Middle School Science Olympiad (BMSSO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science, and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education. The BMSSO team has won the Regional and State Science Olympiad Tournaments for 23 of the past 26 years. In each of those years, we have represented the State of Tennessee at the National Science Olympiad Tournament, consistently placing in the top 30 teams. We have placed as high as 5th in the nation in individual events. This winning tradition is the result of our clear focus on goals that are meant to help every young person who participates more effective in the classroom and in life. The goals of the Bearden Middle School Science Olympiad program are:• To teach science on a level that is not possible to achieve in a normal middle-school classroom setting in order to help students succeed in their high school and college classes.• To teach study habits and a quality work ethic that will guide our students to being successful throughout their lives.• To teach our students to strive for excellence, not only in their studies, but in everything they undertake.• To teach the importance of teamwork and encouraging team members to do their best.• To encourage our team members not only to be good students, but more importantly, to be the best person they can be.Having a successful Science Olympiad team requires a great deal of money. Funds must be raised for event supplies and equipment, and for travel to the Regional, State, and National Tournaments. Our team receives no funding from the county school board. We must raise funds through the support and cooperation of individuals, organizations, and businesses like yours. Additionally, all coaches volunteer their time to work with students in this exceptional program.
