The network was founded on the need to build a coalition of university access organizations across Africa to empower the next generation of community-builders through higher education. We strive to level the playing field in international higher education to increase inclusion, access, and scholarship support for remarkable students who only lack finances to make their educational dreams come true. We pursue our mission through advocacy, building connections, and providing our members mentorship, professional development opportunities, and financial resources.

Last week, HALI Access Members and Friends gathered for our annual Community Contemplation to discuss Preparing and Supporting HALI Students for Success After Admission. We had conversations about the struggles students face once they get into university; from cultural and social isolation to financial shock, academic pressure, and adjusting to new systems. The challenges are real, but so are the solutions.

A stable internet connection, a working laptop, and even a quiet place to study are small things that can make the difference between getting into university or missing out. With key steps like standardized tests, such as the SATs and DET, and most college applications now fully online, the digital gap is more critical than ever.
