Huge congratulations to Platini and Philemonde, the talented and dedicated Missouri Botanical Garden horticulturalists based at Parc Ivoloina, who have successfully propagated this wonderful example of an Endangered Clerodendrum kamhyoae to the point of flowering. It is a species that was discovered in recent years in Madagascar by Marie Hélène Kam Hyo Zschocke, after whom the species is named. According to Chris Birkinshaw of Missouri Botanical Garden, it is one of the most spectacular flowering plants in Madagascar and we are very proud that it forms part of MFG and MBG's joint ex-situ rare plant conservation programme at Parc Ivoloina. Students from St Michel's College, Alaotra Mangoro, were fascinated by the chameleon display and activities being put on at Ivoloina to celebrate the 2nd ever International Chameleon Day today. Further quizzes and awareness-raising activities are planned for the Ivoloina Saturday School children and zoo visitors tomorrow.
