California Coast Crab Association

Overview

The California Coast Crab Association (CCCA) is a nonprofit organization designated as a 501(c)(6) entity, which is typically classified as a business league or chamber of commerce[2]. The association focuses on promoting and defending the interests of the California Dungeness crab industry.

Mission and Objectives

The primary mission of the CCCA is to safeguard and sustain the California Dungeness crab fishery. This involves advocating for policies and measures that ensure the long-term viability of the crab fishery, while also representing the interests of its members within the industry[4].

Structure and Activities

The CCCA operates as a coast-wide, industry-only trade association, aiming to collect and unify the voices of its members to address challenges and opportunities in the fishery[3]. Its activities likely include lobbying, industry research, and collaborative efforts with other stakeholders to maintain environmental sustainability and economic viability in the crab fishing sector.

Affiliations and Partnerships

While specific partnerships are not detailed, the CCCA would likely interact with entities such as the Dungeness Crab Task Force (DCTF), which is involved in reviewing and evaluating Dungeness crab fishery management measures in California[1]. Such affiliations can facilitate collaboration in policy development and industry management.

Legal Status and Operations

As a 501(c)(6) organization, the CCCA operates under specific tax laws, allowing it to engage in various business-related activities while maintaining its nonprofit status. It files annual reports (Form 990) with the US Internal Revenue Service, providing details on its financial operations and management structure[5].

You can find the complete rulemaking here. Our strong engagement with the both the California Whale Working Group WWG and the CA Dept of Fish and Wildlife has helped keep us on the water for a full 20192020 season in the north and a month longer than expected in the South. The following are recent letters sent to CDFW that highlight our concerns moving forward with RAMP.
