Hester J Hodgdon Libraries for All Program
Overview
The Hester J Hodgdon Libraries for All Program is a US-based nonprofit organization founded in 2003 to support the San Juan del Sur Biblioteca Pública y Móvil in Nicaragua. The organization is dedicated to promoting literacy and establishing sustainable lending libraries throughout Nicaragua and Central America.
History
The program was initiated by Jane Mirandette, who began a lending library in San Juan del Sur in 2001. Recognizing the absence of lending libraries in Nicaragua, Mirandette started a small library from her hotel patio. The library expanded over time and eventually became the first lending library in the country.
