Sionnan Wood is a spotlight artist in the upcoming Irish Contemporaries {iv} opening June 7th at 1pm @18thstreetarts Sionnan is an internationally exhibited artist and curator, originally from British Columbia. She was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, schooled at Mills College in Oakland, the Burren College of Art in County Clare, and ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, and currently resides in Los Angeles. Her compositions blend painterly intuition with technical skill, balancing representational methods and abstract processes. Alternately moody and irreverent, her current work is comprised of abstract paintings that invoke a sense of light and space. She is inspired by the playful, witty tone of Eleanor Antin, David Shrigley, and James Thurber, and draws formal inspiration from Mark Bradford, Agnes Martin, Bridget Riley, and Joseph Albers. Her art practice is heavily informed by neuroaesthetics, motherhood, and her late-diagnosed ADD.
