Northwestern Medicine Canning Thoracic Institute held an outreach event for more than 200 coal miners in Lynnville, Indiana. Thanks to the incredible work of the Northwestern Medicine Black Lung Department, many miners began the U.S. Department of Labor Black Lung exam process, with reminders that these exams can be repeated every two to three years. Canning Thoracic Institute team members also distributed NARCAN kits and shared powerful stories of how NARCAN can reverse an opioid overdose and save lives in the community. Canning Thoracic Institute is recognized by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as a Center of Excellence for Black Lung care, offering more comprehensive evaluations for this condition.
