Since opening in 1990, Majestic audiences have seen thousands of local, national, and international performances. Serving both professionals and amateurs, each year the Majestic is host to over 140 plays, musicals, dance concerts, operas, pageants, variety shows and music concerts.As a civic center, the Majestic Theatre serves the needs of businesses, civic groups, clubs, and non-profits by offering meeting and gathering space at affordable rates. The 300-seat Starker Auditorium, the 75-seat Community Room, and other rooms give users several alternatives and make a great package for conference-type events.HistoryThe Majestic Theatre was built in 1913 as the premiere vaudeville house in Corvallis. For decades, well-known troubadours and thespians traveled up and down the west coast, with Corvallis and the Majestic Theatre as a main stoit was converted to a motion picture house during the 1930's, renamed the Varsity Theatre, and occasionally hosted live plays by the OSU Theatre Department, until it was closed in 1977. It remained boarded-up until 1985 when the City of Corvallis purchased it and the building next door with the intent of renovating them into a performing arts center for the community. A citizen-led campaign raised over a million dollars for the renovation and the doors opened in April of 1990. After the first year, the City of Corvallis handed management of the facility over to Majestic Theatre Management, Inc.
