ABOUT US Welcome to Chapter 49 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Chapter 0049 is one of the most senior veteran organizations in the San Diego community. The Purple Heart is an American decoration the oldest military decoration in the world in its present use and the first American award made available to the common soldier. It was initially created as the Badge of Military Merit by one of the worlds most famous and bestloved heroes General George Washington.
