At the historic Cotton Museum in downtown Memphis we’re re-discovering the American South and telling the dynamic story of the plant that built the Bluff City. At the historic Cotton Museum in downtown Memphis we’re re-discovering the American South. Sharing the story of the cotton and its many influences on daily life, the arts, and the development of the region with students and visitors. We accomplish this through interpretive exhibits, educational programs, and research archives on the floor of the historic Memphis Cotton Exchange in the city that remains the epicenter of worldwide cotton trading.

The Cotton Museum The Crop That Changed The World Plan Your Visit Visiting the Cotton Museum in Downtown Memphis Tennessee is an opportunity to tread in the steps of legendary Memphians and the shapers of the first burgeoning international economy. The floor of the Memphis Cotton Exchange is where cotton traders once stood in the center of the global cotton market. Once only the elite members of the Cotton Exchange were allowed to enter. Today this historic space is open to the public and is devoted to sharing the story of the crop that changed the world.
