Friends of Greenlawn Cemetery – Friends of Greenlawn — Chester, PA

The mission of the Friends of Greenlawn Cemetery as a group, is to plan and execute the restoration of Greenlawn Cemetery, collect, and organize documentation of those who have been laid to rest in the cemetery, preserve historical documents and the stories of those individuals who are buried at Greenlawn, and secure permanency of perpetual care and historical status to provide a place of honor with consistent access for the families of loved ones and the larger community. This will allow for the recognition and remembrance of the contributions of those who have gone before us.

Friends of Green Lawn 2025 Friends of Greenlawn Cemetery Our Story Green Lawn Cemetery was founded by Lawrence MurraySr. in May of 1907 to serve the African American community in the Chester City and Delaware County Pennsylvania region. The cemetery houses at least 2000 burials including the graves of at least 250 veterans of the United States Armed Services who served from the Civil War through the 20th century. Green Lawn is a vital cultural and historical resource in the community where residents can connect and learn about African American history and life and the important contributions African Americans made to the Chester area the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the nation.
