The mission of Gammelgarden Museum of Scandia is to preserve, present, and promote Swedish immigrant heritage and history. Through engaging exhibitions, educational programs, and community events, the museum aims to celebrate and share the rich history, arts, culture, traditions, and customs of the Scandinavian people as they relate to and impact contemporary American society. Vlkommen Preserving Heritage Events NordicInspired Gifts Learn Discover Sharing Traditions Step Back in History Gammelgrden old farm Established in 1972 Gammelgrden Museum of Scandia honors the Swedish immigrants who founded the community and celebrates the story of all immigrants to their new land. With eight openair museums throughout Minnesota Gammelgrden Museum is the only one of this type in Washington County. Focusing on history art culture and agriculture Gammelgrden is the singular openair museum devoted to preserving presenting and promoting Swedish immigrant heritage in the United States. Housed in six buildings on the historic gammelgrden or old farm where the community of Scandia was first established Gammelgrden invites visitors to step back in time experience the stories of Swedish immigrants and relate them to their own family immigration stories.
