Dear OSA Community, It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of the Oregon Student Association (OSA) after almost 50 years of student-led advocacy across the state. Since 1975, OSA has empowered future leaders and unified students across Oregon to build collective power to advocate for policies that create a more equitable and accessible higher education system. OSA has worked tirelessly for decades to ensure that the voices and rights of students were heard and respected at every level of decision-making. The decision to close our doors was not made lightly. For several years, OSA has faced challenges related to our organizational structure and funding mechanisms, which have made it increasingly difficult to maintain sustainable operations. These challenges, coupled with the tragic loss of a staff member and the critical injury of our Executive Director in a car accident in July of 2024, have made it implausible for OSA to continue operating. Swipe or click the link in our bio to see our full statement regarding OSA’s closure... ➡️ We thank the countless staff, board members, coalition partners, and student leaders who have given their time, energy, and passion to OSA over the years. Together, we have made a difference, and it has been an honor to serve Oregon’s students. ❤️ In Solidarity, The Oregon Student Association (fb)

Dear OSA Community, We wanted to provide you all with an update on Joseph’s recovery process and share this photo from José’s celebration of life last month. Joseph sustained serious injuries in the accident, including a fractured hip, ischemic bowel, and other internal injuries. Following the accident, Joseph was hospitalized for a week and underwent surgery to bring him to stable condition. Given the severity of the accident and his injuries, it is truly a miracle that Joseph is still with us today. Joseph has a long and challenging recovery process ahead that will require ongoing medical care and rehabilitation. Joseph has shown remarkable resilience, and he gets stronger with each passing day. He is just now beginning to walk again and have more mobility. We are incredibly grateful for his continued progress and have to thank the excellent support system and medical team that has assisted him throughout his healing journey thus far. A few weeks ago, OSA staff, students, and many of José’s close friends gathered for an intimate celebration of life to honor José. It was a special and meaningful space where we could share stories, memories, and the profound impact José had on so many people’s lives. The night was filled with love, laughter, and tears, as we came together to remember and celebrate who José was. So many people loved José, and his loss will always be deeply felt. As we continue to support José’s families and Joseph’s recovery, we ask for your continued generosity. The financial burden of medical expenses, funeral costs, and ongoing support for both families is significant. Please consider contributing to our GoFundMe page at tinyurl.com/JoseandJoseph. Every donation, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated and makes a difference. Finally, we want to extend our deepest gratitude for the outpouring of support from our community. We have seen your generous donations, your thoughtful words and condolences, and your unwavering kindness. We couldn’t be more appreciative for the way people have rallied behind us and lifted us up. Your support gives us strength and hope as we navigate this challenging time. Thank you. ❤️ (fb)
