Wandering, or elopement, occurs when someone leaves a safe or supervised area. For Autistic individuals, this can result from challenges in communication, sensory regulation or stress responses, as well as unmet needs or curiosity. The Autism Society is at the forefront of a national effort to prevent water and wandering-related tragedies. We've teamed up with IACP and The Arc’s NCCJD® to compile valuable resources.
