What We Do Our vision is to create a continuous nonmotorized trail to connect Mount Rainier National Park to the Puget Sound from Carbon Canyon to the Ruston Way waterfront. Where Were Going The Foothills National Recreation Trail serves as the spine of the Pierce County Trail System running through the communities of Buckley Carbonado Wilkeson South Prairie Orting Puyallup and Sumner. Our vision is a 52mile connected trail system from Mount Rainier National Park to the Ruston Way waterfront in Tacoma. Who We Are Foothills was founded as a communityled volunteer organization to transform an abandoned railway corridor into a connected trail to provide safe access for outdoor actives preserve protect the environment and promote economic revitalization and historic preservation.
