The festival is held on the weekend closest to July 14 the date of Guthries birth in Guthries hometown of Okemah Oklahoma. The Woody Guthrie Coalition a notforprofit 501C 3 organization is dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy music of Woodrow Wilson Guthrie through the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival as well as yearround cultural musical educational scholarly community outreach events that relate to Woody Guthrie folk music.
